About the Title
"Crisis" comes from a varied connection, the foremost being the impending conflict between man and machine, the second being economical. The Japanese economy in the late Eighties is where the "Bubblegum" title aspect comes from, the rate of growth was called a "bubbling economy". In other words the economy was growing exponentially, faster than any other nations economy in the world. The creators of the series just did a play on words and turned "bubble or bubbling" into "bubblegum". Bubblegum is also a reference to pop culture.
Back to "Crisis", as mentioned economically boomers were making a crunch on human resources. As boomers increased in the working field, human positions began to decrease. At first world leaders and socialists thought this was a relievement for humanity, but they soon realized their mistake when the streets began overfilling with unemployed and eventually homeless. Then there is the more physical dangers that "crisis" relates too, such as the satellite strikes, development of combat boomers, boomers being used for crimes, rogue boomers, and so forth.
In the end, the title and the series itself has several in depth levels. It would be a shame to deprive either of them in one form or another simply for commercialization. However, for the purposes of the script "Bubblegum Crisis: MegaTokyo 2032" remains a working title, though I'm sure it will change come production.
