Origins
In 1987 AIC © produced an animated series inspired by the visuals of Warner Bros © Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford. The animated series was further developed to include the desolation of a near future Tokyo and four heroines that would rise from the ash via the use of powered armour. The original screenwriters are Matsuzaki Kenishi, Kakinuma Hideki, Aramaki Shinji, and Akiyama Katsuhito, with orignal story by Suzuki Toshimichi. And Kenichi Sonada as the original mechanical and character designer.
This man versus machine aspect of the series is not new. It's been contemplated for centuries, possibly millenias, and can be seen in many forms of literature and media. The creators of BGC were inspired by the Blade Runner movie. However the Blade Runner (1982, Director's Cut 1991) movie is an adaptation of the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" written by Philip K. Dick. An example of this is the characters Leon, Priss, and her band The Replicants, all being direct references to Blade Runner. The series takes cues from William Gibson's "Neuramancer" and as well.
